I have just added the 41st tutorial on creating a role playing game with XNA to my web site. In this tutorial I continued on with adding in dialogs for the NPCs in the game. I know have the NPCs being able to follow simple scripts and respond to the player's choices. As always you can find the link to the tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page of my web site. You can also find a screen shot of the player talking to an NPC on the Screenshots page of my web site.

I have also split the RPG Tutorials page into two pages. There is a second page RPG Tutorials ZIP that has compressed tutorials. The reason is that the page is starting to get really long. Combined there were 82 entries.

In this XNA RPG tutorial I continued on with the refactoring and I also start on the ability of the player to interact with sprites in the game. At the moment the player can start a conversation with a sprite by pressing the space bar to bring up a little dialog window and then close the window by pressing space again. At the moment the sprite doesn't have an actual coversation. I will be adding that in one of the next tutorials. You can find the link to the tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page on my web site.

I continued with the refactoring in this tutorail and I also added in the Content Pipeline classes to import, process, write and read tile maps. I also had to change the TileMap component and separate it into two classes: TileMapCompoent and TileMap the reason is that you can't read in a Game object using the Content Pipeline and the TileMap component required a Game object in the constructor. You can find the link to the tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page of my web site.

There is something that has been bothering me for a while now about the game and I decided that it was time to fix it. The action screen is good for small game but a game as advanced as an RPG it can be a bit of a hinderance. I started the process of removing the action screen or at least making it better to work with the game you can find the link to the tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page.

The second part of the tutorial on the collision layer is now on the web site and is ready for download. This is probably one of the most complex tutorials so far. If you have any problems with any of it you can leave a comment on my blog or use the Contact Page on this site. As always you can find the link the actual tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page.

I have just finished the newest tutorial on creating a role playing game with XNA and have uploaded to the site. This is a rather short tutorial but it paves the way for a more rather complex tutorial. I got started with the collision layer for the map. The collision layer is responsible for handling how the player interacts with the map. It will keep the player from walking into water tiles or into buildings or trees. You can find the link to the tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page of this site.

I have finished the next tutorial on creating a role playing game with XNA. In this tutorial I made a minor fix to the tile engine. I received a comment on the blog that there are lines around the tiles. The problem was with the tiles. When I use tiles of better quality there are no lines. I was able to minimize this problem. I also did some work on the tile map editor. The editor now works with the mouse and not the keyboard. The map will scroll when the mouse is in the tiles at the edges of the display. The editor will draw or erase tiles while the left mouse button is down inside the display. You can find the link to the tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page.

I have just uploaded a new tutorial in my role playing game series to the web site. This is a rather short tutorial but it shows how easy it is to add in sprites to the game for other characters. You can find the link to the tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page and a screen shot of the game on the Screenshots page.

I have uploaded the latest tutorial in my role playing game series to the web site. In this tutorial I extended the Tile Map Editor to create maps with multiple layers and added in a new tile set. You can find a link to the tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page and screen shots of the Tile Map Editor and a multilayer map on the Screenshots page.

?I have just uploaded the latest tutorial on creating a role playing game with XNA to my web site. In this tutorial I continued work on the tile map editor. I added in the ability to read maps from disk into the editor and work on them. At the moment it still only works with a single layer but in the next tutorial on the editor I will be adding in the ability to work on multiple layers. You can find the link to tutorial on the RPG Tutorials page of my web site.

Good luck with your XNA game programming adventures.
